I'm very excited to announce that I will be working with Tom Bourdeau to bring Little Cloud kites to North America. As many of you know, Tom is the father of the miniwing class of paragliders. His designs have a bit of a cult following in the paragliding community and he's also been the genius behind many of HQ4's most successful kites (including the Montana X – still one of my favorite designs of all time). So when the opportunity presented itself to partner with Little Cloud, I didn’t have to think twice.
Why Little Cloud?
Little Cloud fits perfectly into CKS’ desire to support smaller, more family-like companies offering high-end products. "Family-like" community is synonymous with Little Cloud – as is their mission to design the highest performing, yet fun and user-friendly products on the market. This too fits seamlessly into what CKS is all about.
Little Cloud's kites are not as well known as their paragliders, but I believe that is about to change.
What is a kiting a Little Cloud kite like?
Think of Little Cloud kites as the craft beer or Private Label of the kiting world. Few people in the world have as much experience building kites and ram-air foils as Tom does. While most of his designs in the past have been fashioned to the whims and desires of other companies, Little Cloud serves as Tom’s personal workshop - where he's able to build the kind of kite that he would want to fly. It’s like if Antonio Stradivari built a violin just for himself. Or, let’s say, you asked Steve Jobs to build a computer just for you – and he did – and then he gave it to you - but not before giving it a hug. THAT’S what owning a Little Cloud kite is like. Are you crying yet? You should be.
I love small companies that feel more like family than business. Working with HQ4 has been very much that sort of experience for me. I have no doubt that Little Cloud is going to be the same thing. And that’s why I am so excited to add Little Cloud to the CKS repertoire.
If you're looking for the glossiest, highestly-hyped kites with the sickest promo videos on the market – this might not be your bag. But if you fancy yourself as having a bit independant streak, if you enjoy being a little different and taking the road a little less traveled; if you favor the custom-tailored to the mass-produced, and if the idea of smaller, more personable, more sustainable companies with the highest of standards really resonates with who you are and what you want to support – then I think you’ve come to the right place.
Welcome to Little Cloud. Welcome to HQ4. Welcome to CKS. We’re glad you’re here.
